Glyfada to Ancient Epidaurus, Sunken City, Aegina, Agistri, Perdika

Palaia or Ancient Epidaurus is located on the east side of the Prefecture of Argolida. The city of Palaia Epidaurus took its name from Epidaurus, son of Argos, who was its ruler. Today, it is a small, but beautiful fishing village, known since antiquity for its developed culture. Palaia Epidaurus stands on its ancient city. Findings from excavations that have been made in the area prove the existence of life there from the 3rd millennium BC. Next to the port of Palaia Epidaurus there is an island at the foot of the small theater of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC, dedicated to the god Dionysus. Other attractions in the area of Palaia Epidaurus are the Mycenaean Acropolis of Kazarma, the sunken state, the castle of New Epidaurus, as well as many scattered churches and monasteries. Just opposite the small theater of Epidaurus is a Mycenaean cemetery with seven vaulted tombs, and at a short distance the ruins of an ancient temple of the goddess Artemis.

This sunken state or otherwise the Sunken “Atlantis” of Argolis, as they call it, is located just two meters below the surface of the sea, and it is where foundations of buildings and Mycenaean tombs of the 12th century BC are laying. From above, one can even see the paved roads ancient inhabitants walked on. These parts of the ancient city of Epidaurus can be seen even while swimming, which is an incredible experience. At the same time, at this point looking down, in the clear blue waters one feels as if going back in time. All this is also visible from a boat.

You can start your day with snorkeling around the Sunken “Atlantis” and/or a walk in the beautiful city of Epidaurus. Then you can swim in the clear blue waters of Agkistri and/or take a walk in the beautiful city of Aegina. For fresh seafood we will visit the fishing village of Perdika, which adorns the south side of Aegina.
